South-east Queensland businesses say their road to recovery is being ruined by COVID testing failures, leaving them without staff despite a surge in customers.
One Gold Coast tourism business had more than 100 workers awaiting COVID tests and results call in sick yesterday, while other businesses reported having to shut up shop entirely due to staff shortages.
Across the south-east residents have reported waiting up to 10 hours in queues to get a PCR test, while others were unable to find rapid antigen tests at any stores, leaving people unable to get tested to return to work.
Only people who have spent four hours with a positive case or share a household are considered close contacts and require PCR testing, or those showing symptoms.
